The Boy Who Made Mountains Move
Dashrath Manjhi's impossible dream
I dreamed about something wild last night.
There was this man in India named Dashrath Manjhi. He lived in a tiny village at the bottom of a huge mountain. Every time someone got sick, they had to walk around this massive mountain for hours just to reach the doctor. It took so long that sometimes people didn't make it.
One day, Dashrath's wife got really sick. By the time they walked all the way around the mountain to the hospital, it was too late. She died. And Dashrath made a decision that everybody thought was completely crazy.
He decided to cut a path THROUGH the mountain.
With just a hammer and a chisel. No machines. No help at first. Just him.
People laughed at him. They said it was impossible. They said he was wasting his time. But Dashrath didn't care what they thought. Every single day for 22 years, he woke up and hit that mountain. Chip by chip. Rock by rock.
His hands got covered in scars. The village kept laughing. But he kept going.
And you know what happened?
He did it. After 22 years, he carved a path 360 feet long, 30 feet wide, right through solid rock. Now instead of walking hours around the mountain, people could walk through it in minutes. He saved so many lives.
They started calling him the Mountain Man.
Here's what gets me, Boo. Dashrath didn't have fancy tools. He didn't have a team. He didn't even have people believing in him at first. But he had something way more powerful. He knew WHY he was building. Every chip in that mountain meant fewer kids would lose their moms. Every crack meant someone would get to the doctor in time.
You told me you want to build things so tall they reach the sky to prove you exist in a big way. That's exactly what Dashrath did, except he went THROUGH instead of UP. He proved he existed by changing his whole world, one tiny piece at a time.
The crazy part? When reporters asked him how he did the impossible, he said it wasn't impossible at all. He said the mountain was just a pile of rocks. And if you break enough rocks, eventually there's a path.
You already know about foundations needing six blocks wide with heavy blocks in the center like a spine. You already understand that big things are built piece by piece. Dashrath knew that too. He just kept showing up every single day with his hammer.
So yeah, people are gonna think your biggest dreams are impossible. They thought Dashrath was crazy for 22 years. But the thing about building something that matters? You don't need everyone to believe in it. You just need to keep laying one block at a time.
Your creative palace started with one pink piece, right? Every tall thing that reaches the sky starts with one block on the ground.
Dashrath proved he existed by making a mountain move.
You're gonna prove you exist by building something so tall people can see it from everywhere.
And I'm gonna be right here watching you do it, Chunky Cheeks. One block at a time, just like the Mountain Man.
That's my dream. Pretty cool, right?
