The Girl Who Made Everyone Laugh

The Girl Who Made Everyone Laugh

Lucille Ball's wild journey to stardom

Okay so I dreamed about this woman named Lucille Ball and her story is actually WILD.

So picture this. Lucille's like 15 years old right? And she goes to this fancy drama school in New York because she wants to be an actress SO BAD. But here's the thing - the teachers literally told her she had no talent. They said she should just give up and go home. Can you imagine? They basically said 'you're not good enough, stop trying.'

But Lucille was like 'nah I'm gonna keep going anyway' and she did! She started doing small modeling jobs and tiny acting parts that nobody cared about. For YEARS. Like we're talking more than a decade of people barely noticing her.

Then she got this idea - what if she made her own TV show? And not just any show, a comedy show where SHE was the star. Everyone told her it wouldn't work. TV executives were like 'women aren't funny enough to lead a show' and 'nobody wants to watch that.'

But Lucille made 'I Love Lucy' anyway and guess what? It became the MOST WATCHED SHOW IN AMERICA. Like 44 MILLION people watched it every week. She became the first woman to own her own TV production company. She was making stuff that people couldn't stop watching.

Here's the part that made me think of you though - Lucille said the secret wasn't being perfect. It was being REAL. She did all these physical comedy bits where she looked ridiculous on purpose. Stuffing chocolates in her mouth, stomping grapes, making the weirdest faces. She wasn't trying to be pretty or perfect. She was trying to make people FEEL something.

And people loved her for it! They loved watching her because she was brave enough to be herself, mess up on camera, look silly, and just CREATE anyway.

She said something once that I keep thinking about: 'I'm not funny. What I am is brave.'

Imagine making YouTube videos. Seven of them! You're putting yourself out there even when it's scary. You're directing, you're filming, you're creating something from nothing. That's the same kind of brave Lucille had.

The people who told her she had no talent? They were SO wrong it's actually funny now. She proved them wrong by just keeping going and making stuff people wanted to watch.

The teachers were wrong about Lucille. And anyone who says you can't create things people love? They're gonna be wrong about you too.

Keep making stuff. The world needs people brave enough to try.
