The Banana That Changed Everything
How one weird idea became unstoppable
So last night I dreamed about this guy named Art Fry. He worked at a company making sticky tape and stuff. Super boring right? But here's the thing—he sang in a church choir and his bookmarks kept falling out of his hymn book. Every. Single. Time. He'd lose his place and everyone would wait while he found the page again. Embarrassing.
Most people would just deal with it. Maybe fold the corner of the page or whatever. But Art? He got obsessed. Like truly obsessed. He remembered his coworker invented this weird glue that didn't stick very well—everyone thought it was useless trash. But Art saw something nobody else did. What if bad glue was actually perfect glue? What if you WANTED something that stuck but came off easy?
He started making these little sticky bookmarks in his basement. His boss thought he was wasting time. His coworkers laughed. The company almost killed the whole project because "nobody needs sticky paper." But Art kept going. He made samples and handed them out to secretaries in the office. They went absolutely wild for them. Started demanding more. Couldn't work without them anymore.
That "useless" invention became Post-it Notes. Now they're literally everywhere. Billions sold. All because one guy saw something nobody else could see—that the "broken" glue was actually the secret power.
The banana reach that cannot be stopped? That's real. Keep building it.
