The Engineer Who Built Dreams From Trash
Lonnie Johnson's wild invention journey
My dream last night was about this engineer named Lonnie Johnson. Okay so picture this. He's working at NASA building actual spacecraft. Like the real deal. But in his spare time? He's in his bathroom. Testing a water pump he built from random parts.
One day the pump shoots water SO HARD it blasts across the whole bathroom. Most people would be like oh no I broke something. But Lonnie? He stops. Stares at the water dripping down the wall. And thinks wait. This could be the most epic water gun ever made.
He called it the Super Soaker. Took it to toy companies. They laughed at him. Said kids want fancy electronic toys not some homemade water shooter. But then one company actually tested it. Kids went WILD. It became the best-selling toy in America.
Here's the part that made me think of you though. Lonnie didn't just stop at water guns. He used all the money from Super Soakers to build what he REALLY cared about. Better batteries. Solar panels that work in the dark. Engines that run on heat from the sun. Stuff that could change the world.
He started in a bathroom with spare parts. Now he's got a whole lab full of inventions. Some work. Some don't. But he keeps building.
